Ford BlueCruise is a Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Level 2 driver assist technology that provides convenient hands-free highway driving on over 130,000 miles of compatible highways across North America. Initially branded as Active Drive Assist, Ford BlueCruise operates in Hands-Free Blue Zones, which are pre-qualified sections of divided highways where the BlueCruise system can identify and confirm the road lines are present. BlueCruise leverages the combined power of cameras, radar-sensing technologies, and many Ford Co-Pilot360™ Driver assistance technologies.
Combined with the powers of intelligent adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go and lane centering, and speed sign recognition, Ford BlueCruise is designed to make even the longest road trips more enjoyable. You still need to keep your eyes on the road, but you can eliminate divided thoughts of monitoring, navigating, and steering for long stretches of compatible roads.
A true hands-free driver assistance system, BlueCruise indicates that it’s in use through messaging and blue lighting in the instrument cluster and does not require you to keep your hands in contact with the steering wheel. Because of these indicators, even those with color blindness can effectively use BlueCruise! To ensure you’re safe when using this system, driver-facing cameras will ensure that your eyes are focused on the road, and other driving conditions are safe to go hands-free.
The advanced driver assist system (ADAS) specialists at Ford are constantly evolving BlueCruise to better suit the needs of drivers and leverage new advancements in technology. Set to be available in fall 2022, Ford BlueCruise 1.2 will also feature hands-free lane changing, in-lane repositioning, and predictive speed assist for tight curves in the road. Yes, BlueCruise is a truly hands-free highway driving system. However, just because it’s hands-free, this does not mean that you can tune out on the road. Your attention, judgment, and ability to intervene immediately are not replaced with this system.
